Abstract:
The "Purim of Buda" is one of the four special Purims celebrated by the Jewish community of Padova to commemorate their rescue from social or natural disasters. Relates the history of these special Purims, and the circumstances in the late 17th century which led the Jews to designate the "Purim of Buda". When the Turks conquered Hungary, Venice sent a military force to reconquer Buda and defeat the Turkish army. The false accusation that the Jews helped the Turks triggered an assault on the ghetto of Padova in 1684. Analyzes the "Pahad Yishaq" by Yishaq Hayyim Cohen Cantarini (1685), a liturgical text written to commemorate the events. Concludes that Cantarini wrote the work in order to preserve the events in the collective Jewish memory.
