Abstract:
Although there was only a small Jewish community in Sweden, political antisemitism emerged there in the 1890s. Discusses the Swedish antisemitic propagandist Elof Eriksson, who published the periodical "Nationen" between 1925-41. Eriksson emerged on the political scene as an agrarian activist; his antisemitism was motivated mainly by his aversion to modern society and modernity. He believed in the Jewish world conspiracy, and in the 1930s his views shifted toward racism. Although Eriksson had some Nazi connections, he was not a member of the Nazi movement. His case shows that antisemitism in Sweden was a mixture of domestic traditions and international influences. Antisemitic notions were not only imported into Sweden from abroad, but also exported from Sweden, e.g. to Nazi Germany.
