Abstract: Pp. 351-359 present a report of the Information Control Division of the Military Government, dated 24 July 1947, discussing the high rate of antisemitism among Germans polled by OMGUS. The report states that antisemitism was widespread in Germany even before it was exploited by the Nazis and strengthened by education and propaganda. Now it is reinforced by resentment against the DPs. Political leaders are reluctant to speak out against it. Calls antisemitism a "personality maladjustment", based on magical thinking, which cannot be uprooted by rational explanation or education. Proposes alternate ways of helping antisemites to a healthier adjustment. Education should focus on the young, who can still be influenced. Different religious groups in the community should be encouraged to work together for tolerance and human rights.
Note: Presents the text of the American military government's "Report on Survival of Anti-Semitism", July 1947 (pp. 351-359).
