Abstract:
Argues that the data obtained from experiments on non-consenting subjects during the Nazi period, mostly carried out in the concentration camps, should not be used, because non-use would be a meaningful and important memorial. This would allow the debate to move beyond the moral theories and pragmatic considerations which have in the past led to a stalemate. The argument which recommends non-use as a memorial is part of a larger group of symbolic arguments which relate to many problems in law and bioethics.
