Abstract: Presents data on antisemitic incidents in Europe, based on records of the Institute of Jewish Affairs in London.During 1980-85, 3,607 antisemitic incidents were reported; 866 involved physical attacks on Jewish property (over 70% targeted at institutions) or individuals (28%). Terrorist attacks, defined as violence using firearms, bombs, etc., form 18% of all attacks - a small proportion, but the casualty rate is high. Both Middle Eastern terrorist groups and right-wing neo-Nazis are responsible for these attacks. Notes the general decline in urban ideological terrorism designed to undermine the state, and the rise in terrorism used by states to advance their own interests. The appendix (pp. 13-20) gives a chronology of the terrorist attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets.
