Abstract:
A comparative study of the sources and work methods for Marsilio Ficino's "De christiana religione" (late 15th century). Chs. 27-36 of this work are a selective compilation of commonplaces regarding the Jewish rejection of the Christian truth and the errors of Muslims. Compares Ficino's texts with his sources: "Quaestiones disputatae contra Hebraeos" by Niccolò di Lira, "Scrutinium S. Scripturarum" by Pablo de Santa María, and "Contra legem Sarracenorum" by Ricoldo da Montecroce. States that by quoting recently printed texts by non-clerical authors, Ficino intended to break the ecclesiastical monopoly and openly discuss theological themes of interest to the general public. He advocated the declaration of Judaism as obsolete after the advent of Christianity, and stressed the importance of the final conversion of the Jews as a sign of the Second Coming. Includes the original text in Latin.
