    Abstract: Reviews the history of Islam with a view to understanding its attitude towards Israel and Judaism. The establishment of the State of Israel was an event which undermined the basic Muslim view that Judaism was no longer a major historical force. In Muslim writings, Israel is depicted alternately as an indignity forced upon the Muslims by the West or as evidence of a demonic conspiracy. The latter view receives support from 19th-20th century European antisemitic literature.
