Abstract:
A revised version of a lecture delivered in January 1987 at a meeting of a Bonn Catholic study group. Examines the influence of the Church's interpretation of three chapters in Paul's Letter to the Romans on the development of anti-Judaism. States that, in view of later historical events, those chapters should no longer be translated literally and the concept of Jewish stubbornness should be revised. Gives a detailed analysis of the text, comparing it with other statements by Paul.
