Abstract:
Contextualizes the recent controversy about the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR), which opened in Winnipeg in September 2014, by documenting the background to the campaigns of two Ukrainian bodies - the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress - against the CMHR's advisory board's plans to install a permanent gallery devoted to the Holocaust. The history of these organizations attests to their glorification of the wartime Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, its militant wing (UPA), and the Waffen-SS Galizien, while rationalizing their roles in the massacres of Jewish and Polish civilians during World War II.
