Abstract:
Traces the career of Ross (1884-1946), a Paulist priest and college chaplain, who was one of the pioneers of ecumenical dialogue in the 1920s-30s, despite recalcitrance on the part of members of the Roman Catholic hierarchy and religious bigots in the U.S. He was a founder of the organization that in 1927 became the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He first sought to fight prejudice against Catholics and Protestants, then moved to oppose antisemitism in his work to promote tolerance.
