Abstract: In 1962, Samuel Herbert Cohen, a Labor member of the Australian Senate, was accused of failing to unequivocally condemn Soviet antisemitism when the matter was brought before the chamber. The failure was ascribed to his association with a communist organization, the Jewish Council to Combat Fascism and Antisemitism. Argues that Cohen was the victim of a conspiracy to ruin his reputation and that of the Labor Party. Cohen was never a defender of the Soviet system and its antisemitism, but he felt that the problem could be solved only through conciliation and not through confrontation. Notes that many of the people who initiated the campaign against Soviet antisemitism in 1962 were far from being philosemitic.
Note: On an attempt in 1962 to discredit Cohen, a member of the Australian Senate.
