Abstract: Compares the careers of young Jewish and non-Jewish academic women in Austria in the 1930s. Both suffered discrimination as women at the university and in the search for employment; the Jewish women suffered additional discrimination as Jews. After the Anschluss, Jewish students and faculty members were expelled from the university and from the workplace and were forced to build up new careers abroad. For the non-Jewish women, the expulsion of the Jews and the military service of the men were an opportunity for academic advancement.
