Abstract:
Discusses whether the antisemitism of the 19th and 20th centuries was rooted in Christian anti-Judaism. Argues that anti-Judaism has a racist base, which arose, especially, in 15th-16th-century Spain when the "limpieza de sangre" statutes were introduced. However, the antisemitism of the 19th and 20th centuries, which was mainly of a political and ideological character, and based on pseudo-scientific premises, cannot be seen as a historical continuation of medieval racist anti-Judaism.
