Abstract:
Highlights the role of Jewish court Jews in promoting the development and expansion of the Marinid sultanate during the mid-13th to early16th centuries, after the Arabized Berber tribe of Marīnids seized power in Morocco. They moved the capital from Marrakesh to Fez, which became a main center of education, art, and commerce, and of Islamic learning. The Marinid period was characterized by a policy of religious toleration, when Jews and Christians were employed and prospered.
