Kurzfassung:
Argues that the enthusiastic support given by some Restorationists to the Jews' return to Zion was not motivated by philosemitism but by a desire for their conversion, and in order to prove Bible prophecies then under scientific attack. The opponents supported Jewish naturalization and defended the Jews against Christian hostility (though some, especially the more extreme Deists, attacked Judaism as a superstitious and exclusive religion). Discusses the arguments for and against the Naturalization Bill in 1753. Restorationists warned that it would prevent the Jews' return to Zion and that they might try to take over England instead. Supporters of the Bill argued that it would encourage conversion, that Jews supported the political status quo, and that their millennial aspirations were merely theoretical. Their efforts were unsuccessful and the Bill was repealed.
