Abstract:
A presentation of the newly discovered archives (in 1985) of the UGIF's Commission des Camps which was active in giving assistance to the Jewish inmates of the internment camps in southern France between 1941-43. The files give an account of the day-to-day activities of the Commission and contain references to Jewish-Catholic relations, foreign workers, Jewish inmates, and general conditions in the camps. States that the Commission was surprised by the deportations from southern France and that its members, who were themselves deported in November 1943, placed too much confidence in the French government and its republican values.
