Kurzfassung:
Describes the procedure of the liquidation of the Podzamcze ghetto in Lublin in March-April 1942, the first ghetto to be liquidated by the Nazis as part of the implementation of "Operation Reinhardt". This was a testing ground for the liquidation of all the other ghettos in the occupied territories. The deportations were carried out in two stages, in March and April. The evacuations were very brutal; many Jews were beaten up or shot dead within the ghetto's walls. The operation was performed by German units aided by auxiliary units from Trawniki, made up of Soviet POWs. Ca. 28,000 Jews were deported to Bełżec, while ca. 1,000 were killed in the ghetto. Ca. 4,000 were moved to the "Restghetto" in Lublin.
