Abstract:
Relates, briefly, the history of Jewish "family camps" which existed in the forests of Belarus: that of the Bielski brothers, Zorin's camp, the camps established by the Jews of Dolginovo, and those from Khotenchitsy near Vileika. Gives a list of the family camps which operated in Belorussia and Ukrainian Polesia. Many Jews who hid in the forests fell victim to the German punitive expeditions, and some - to Polish partisans. Using the personal story of Isroel Proshitskii, from the vicinity of Lyakhovichi, describes the everyday life of a Jewish family in the forest. Jews of Belorussia also participated in the partisan movement.
