Abstract:
Summarizes responses of 67 Germans who agreed to be interviewed (between 1985-88) on their reaction to their parents' role in the Holocaust. Most of the parents had been direct or indirect perpetrators of Nazi crimes (e.g. affiliated with SS units), while 28 were not connected with the extermination processes but lived in Germany during the Third Reich. All the children of perpetrators suffered from a disturbance of communication with their parents and severe emotional conflict which only some had worked through. Gives the details of one interview as an example - the daughter of an Einsatzgruppe commander.
