Abstract:
In the context of the mass murder of over 90% of Lithuanian Jews by Germans and Lithuanians, highlights both individual and group resistance, giving examples. States that 6,000 Jews engaged in combat with the enemy as partisans, ghetto fighters, and soldiers in regular armies (especially the Red Army). Notes the role of organized resistance and partisans despite difficulties posed by the situation of Jews (e.g. those who fled the ghettos) and by Soviet policy, that first welcomed Jewish partisans, then discouraged them.
