Abstract:
Describes the fate of Jewish children in Nazi-occupied Belarus, dealing with cases of death and cases of rescue. Some children remained with their parents, while others were caught in summer camps or in other children's institutions in June 1941 and remained under occupation alone. There were some non-Jews, adults and children, who betrayed Jewish children to the Nazis, while many others helped and rescued them. A remarkable role in rescuing Jewish children was played by orphanages in Minsk and elsewhere. Dwells on the fate of the children of mixed Jewish-Belorussian parentage. Attempts to estimate the losses among Jewish children in Belarus. Presents many examples and personal stories.
