Abstract:
Compares the styles of writing about the Holocaust in the works of two Polish Jewish writers who were children during the war, Henryk Grynberg and Jerzy Kosinski. Each of them has a different approach to the issue of truth when writing about the Holocaust. Kosinski is mainly concerned with "emotional truth", concentrating not on the events but on the way they were experienced. For Grynberg it is important that readers believe his stories, which are "non-artistic truth". He avoids generalizations when writing about the Holocaust. Compares the artistic means of expression of the two writers. In order to explain the concept of making trauma a reality, applies Agnes Heller's "practice of memory" theory.
