Abstract:
Publishes and comments on a report by Catholic authorities in Poland regarding the Kielce pogrom, dated September 1946, sent to the Secretary of State in Washington via the American Embassy in Warsaw. The report describes the events in detail and suggests that the pogrom was provoked by Polish security forces together with some communist-Jewish elements in order to prove that Poland was an antisemitic country and that the Church was reactionary. In this way, communists were able to justify their hardline policy in a period of political struggle in Poland. Micgiel states that there is no sufficient proof for the provocation theory, although some researchers of these events have suggested it.
