Abstract:
Surveys accusations of ritual murder in Poland in the 16th-18th centuries, against the background of important historical events in this period. Some of the accusations are known only from antisemitic literature. The first accusation occurred in 1547 and the last in 1787. In all, there were 81 cases, and not all of them resulted in trials. Among others, there were trials in Krakow, Lublin, Przemysl, and Sandomierz. Concludes that such trials were possible because of the widespread belief in Jewish infanticide in the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth due to the superstitious mentality of the people and the attitude of the Catholic Church.
