Abstract:
Discusses connections of some personalities and events in Piove di Sacco (province of Padova) with the ritual murder trial held in Trento in 1475. David Magronato, a Jewish agent working for the Republic of Venice (who had already died a few years before the ritual murder trial), and his friend, the banker Salomone da Piove, were accused by Jewish and Converso citizens of Trento, under torture, of having brought the blood of Christian children from Cyprus and hidden it in their homes in Piove. Mentions, also, Salomone Cusi, a member of a German family of publishers established in Piove, who tried to help the Jews of Trento and pleaded for them with the Church authorities. In 1475 he published a book of Selichot in which there are hints to the events of 1475.
