Abstract:
In the 18th century, in addition to impositions, taxes, and limitations placed on Jews in the ghettos in Piedmont, they had to pay more money for their food. Jews were the only social group that did not base their alimentation on private production. As a consequence of these restrictions on food, economic conflicts often erupted between members of the Jewish community and the managers of the local slaughterhouse, who charged the Jews a higher price than Christians. This forced Jews to overcome the obstacle of high prices with various strategies, and at times illegal methods too.
