Abstract:
Through archival research, the reading of diaries, memoirs and letters, as well as the collection of testimonies, the author has identified some events of the musical life of the Jewish community of Ferrara in the first half of the twentieth century. Starting from the places of musical training. the importance of piano practice, emblem of the bourgeois living rooms of the city, is highlighted while choral music, together with liturgical music, was the highest moment of collective expression and identity. The pro- cesses of acculturation and the dramatic events that the racial laws an- nounced, constitute the leitmotif of the essay.
