Abstract:
Describes the history of the Jewish community in Szolnok, Hungary (2,590 Jews in 1941) until the Holocaust, the anti-Jewish acts committed in Szolnok by Germans and Hungarians after the Nazi occupation in 1944, the establishment of the ghetto, the populace's reactions to the ghetto, life in the ghetto until its evacuation in June 1944, and war crimes trials related to the Szolnok ghetto. Some of the Jews were sent from the ghetto to camps and sites in Austria. Many were interned in the Strasshof camp. Ca. 2,000 were deported to Auschwitz.
