Abstract:
Discusses works written by Tchernichowsky from 1935 until his death in 1943. Notes that his poetry mainly dealt with the Crusade of 1096 and the Ukrainian pogroms of 1919-21. Like some other poets in the Land of Israel, he chose not to deal with the Holocaust. He might not have wanted to deal with contemporary problems, or he may have felt that information on the Nazi persecution was not accurate enough for him to write about it. His last poems were written in 1942-43, when information on the Holocaust was certainly available, and some of them may have vague references to the Holocaust, but he obviously preferred to relate to atrocities of the past rather than those of his own time.
