Abstract:
The language called Rotwelsch, spoken in southern Germany and Switzerland, is built on a strong substratum of German, but contains numerous words from other languages, notably from various German dialects, including Yiddish, as well as from Hebrew and from Romany languages. The first word of this article's title originates from the Hebrew "massa u-matan" (meaning "give and take", for instance, in business deals).
