Abstract:
Discusses the genre of the Jewish Hungarian-born playwright George Tabori's play (1987) on the young Hitler's relationship with a Jew in a hostel in Vienna. The black humor in Hitler's brutal rejection of his benefactor, and in the culminating scene of the slaughter and roasting of a pet chicken, which prefigure Hitler's later career and the Holocaust, endow Tabori's farce with elements of Austrian folk drama.
