Abstract:
Analyzes anti-Christian and messianic elements in the kabbalistic work "Sefer ha-Meshiv", written in Spain (probably shortly before the expulsion) at a time of severe oppression of the Jews. States that its attempt to present the Church as an "Ecclesia diaboli" expresses Jewish hostility to Christianity which had always presented Judaism as the "Synagoga diaboli". Outlines the influence of Christian theological thought on the Jewish vision of the Messiah, whose coming is said to be conditioned on the fall of Christianity and Islam and the Christians' conversion to Judaism.
