Abstract:
Yvonne Jospa and Ida Sterno were both leading activists in the Comité de Défense des Juifs en Belgique (CDJ) during World War II. Both women were born in Eastern Europe and arrived in Belgium at an early age. Through studies at the École Centrale de Service Social, they became familiar with Belgian social conditions and acquired a solid professional base for their work in Jewish civil resistance. The CDJ, which was created in 1942 in response to the roundups, was organized in four sections; Jospa and Sterno were active in the section dedicated to rescuing Jewish children. Emphasizes that the two women's professionalism, which included knowledge of Belgian networks and organizations, was an essential element in their work for the CDJ.
