Abstract:
Analyzes the circumstances of the riots provoked by the Jewish population of Oran, Algeria, in May 1925, after an inflamed antisemitic electoral campaign led by the elected mayor Dr. Jules Molle, leader of the Bloc National. Molle managed his campaign, especially through his local newspaper "Petit Oranais", by using social frustrations and ethnic tensions between Arabs and other ethnic communities (Spanish, French, Jewish), as well as latent antisemitism, in order to obtain a racist-based political and popular anti-Jewish consensus. The title of the article is a quote from the French antisemitic journal "L'Action Française" from the day after the riots.
Note:
On the events of 1925 in Algeria and their antisemitic background.
