Abstract:
Attempts to establish the number of Jewish victims of the Holocaust in each of the territories into which Czechoslovakia was divided by the Nazis. On the basis of the available, incomplete records, estimates over 80,000 for the Czech regions; 70,000 for Slovakia (in two waves of deportations, 1942 and 1944); and 42,000 for the parts of Slovakia and 80,000 for the parts of Carpathian Ruthenia annexed by Hungary (11,000 deported by the Hungarians to Kamenets-Podolskii in 1941 and massacred there by the Germans; the rest in the deportations of 1944): a total of 272,000.
