Abstract:
Describes the deportation of Czech Jews who were sent directly to the East without passing through Theresienstadt. Mentions the first transports in October 1939 to Nisko, and six transports of 1,000 Jews each in October-November 1941 to ghettos in the East, mostly to Lodz. Gives details on each transport, such as the date of departure, the age of the deportee, the number of children, and the number of survivors. After December 1941, all transports were sent to Theresienstadt, but a transport of 1,000 Jews directly to Majdanek took place in 1942 as punishment for an attempt to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich. The last of these direct transports left Prague on 27 October 1944 with 18 persons, mostly leaders of the Jewish community and their families. Altogether, 7,018 Jews were deported, among them 719 children; only 274 survived.
