Abstract:
Based on a survey of 1,161 Jews, ex-Soviet citizens (men and women) who had left the USSR in 1977-80, and who were interviewed during 1980-1 in Israel (n = 590), West Germany (n = 100) and the United States (n = 471). Six hundred women and 561 men were interviewed, from six different regions of the USSR - Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, the Baltic States, and Central Asia. The differing views and attitudes in regard to Ukrainians are analyzed. States that, as such opinion polls cannot be carried out in the USSR, interviewing émigrés is the next best option to procure this information.
