Abstract:
Surveys references to the "Jewish question" in five Catholic journals which appeared in Kraków, Katowice, Częstochowa, Kielce, and Tarnów during the years 1926-39. There is no correlation between the quantity of items published and the number of Jews in the town. In the studied period, 1,061 items (articles, reports, and informative notes) were published. Evaluates these items in regard to "tendencies" in approaching the theme, and the language used. The "tendency" may be positive, neutral, or negative; the language may be negative or neutral. The surveyed items are also classified according to subject - politics, economics, culture, religion, etc. Concludes that most of the items contained negative information about the Jews, much less were neutral, and very few were positive. This confirms the view that the Catholic press evinced a negative attitude towards Jews. Mentions that religious controversies were not discussed, only internal problems of Poland. No article was published in opposition to antisemitism.
