Abstract:
Discusses the image of the Jew in the works of the Spanish poet, whose religion-inspired verses include popular anti-Jewish stereotypes (e.g. deicide, usury, witchcraft) as well as accusations of rejecting the Christian message. Nevertheless, Berceo's attitude toward the Jews was moderate: he softened the stereotypes adapted from contemporary written sources, he did not blame all Jews for the acts of one, and he certainly did not incite to violence against Jews.
