Abstract:
Deals with witnesses of the Holocaust in Slovakia who testified at the Eichmann trial, namely Ernst Abeles, Bedrich Steiner, Adolf Rosenberg, Eliševa Szenes, Arie Zvi Breszlauer, Vera Alexandrová, and Gedaliah Ben-Zvi. Focuses on the importance of the testimonies, which influenced discussion on the "victim's guilt" - i.e. the role of Jewish civil authorities and Jewish kapos in concentration camps. Describes how the Israeli media consequently created a new type of hero, such as Gisi Fleischmann, the head of the Working Group in Slovakia, who made a great effort to stop the deportations and save as many Jews as possible, or Vera Alexandrová, a kapo in Auschwitz, who tried to take advantage of her position to save lives. Relates, also, how the Israeli media portrayed the testimonies on Slovakia.
