Abstract:
Discusses the difference between East and West Germany's press coverage of the Eichmann trial, held in Jerusalem between 1960-1962. The official East German press used this event to support its propaganda against West Germany as a haven for Nazi war criminals, especially Globke, the adviser to Adenauer and the author (according to the East) of the plan of extermination carried out by Eichmann. The East Germans, supposedly had all been anti-fascists. The West German press stressed the importance of the trial as an opportunity both for educating youth about Nazi crimes and for the older generations to face their past.
