Kurzfassung:
During the 1930s, Nazi influence grew in Afghanistan, especially after Muhammad Zahir Shah was enthroned in 1933 by Berlin-educated pro-Nazi politicians. Harsh anti-Jewish measures, including the expulsion of the Jews from the northern trading centers to their places of origin - Herat, Kabul, and Balkh - were introduced. Jews were banned from their traditional trade in furs and carpets. Many Balkh Jews were expelled from the ghetto and lived as refugees in the country, subject to attacks by the local mob. Includes the facsimile of a memorandum from Afghan Jews in Palestine to the Jewish Agency (1935) requesting immigration certificates in view of this persecution.
