Antisemitism History 21st century
Kurzfassung:
Traces mainly the objection of Hungarian Jews to the erection in Budapest of a memorial to the victims of the German occupation, which absolves the Horthy regime of its responsibility for the Holocaust. The current Hungarian secretary of state, János Lázár, condemned a Jewish letter of protest sent to him in 2013 and accused the Jews of splitting the nation and triggering anxiety. Contends that Lázár's inciting words, which were published in an article and supported by the newspaper of the ruling party, led to increased antisemitism. Embraces Sartre's idea that antisemitism is a passion, not an ideology, and briefly traces the long history of antisemitism, without which the Holocaust could not have happened. Concludes that Hungary continues to deny its part in the extermination of the Jews, as shown by the planned memorial.
