The years following World War I were a period of local wars and revolutions in East Central Europe, accompanied by anti-Jewish violence. Discusses violence perpetrated by the Russians during the war period (pp. 212-216), and after the war in the East European nations fighting for independence or for political changes in their countries. Describes events in Ukraine, Poland, the Baltic countries, Hungary, Romania, and Czechoslovakia. Estimates that there were anywhere between 30,000-200,000 Jewish victims of violent acts during this period. Between 1918-21 the populace in East Central Europe became accustomed to mass anti-Jewish violence, and this definitely affected their behavior during the Holocaust.
