Kurzfassung:
Describes the unsuccessful attempt by Abraham Cronbach (1882-1965), professor of social studies at Hebrew Union College, to convince various individuals and organizations of the American Jewish establishment to support his call for clemency for Nazi war criminals. His ardent pacifism led him, in 1935, to call for a conference of "reconciliation" between Nazis and Jews in Philadelphia. Cronbach was a member of the anti-Zionist American Council for Judaism, to which many German Jewish right-wing and nationalistic emigres adhered, from 1942 on.
