Kurzfassung:
Pius V acceded to the papal throne in 1566 and almost immediately (19 April) issued a bull against the Jews in the Papal States, involving various requirements and prohibitions (e.g. the wearing of a yellow-green hat, interdiction of practice of usury). When he found that the bull was ineffective, he decreed (on 26 February 1569) the expulsion of all the Jews from the Papal States, except for Rome and Ancona where they were permitted to live in ghettos. Presents here the texts of ten letters and one responsum found in Hebrew mss. showing Jewish reactions to these measures.
