Abstract:
In December 1941 Ion Antonescu allowed relief to be sent to Jews who had been deported to Transnistria, through the Autonomous Relief Commission set up by the Federation of Jewish Communities. However, the authorities imposed many obstacles to the transfer of this relief; much of the aid was sent clandestinely, through non-Jewish couriers. In March 1942 one of the couriers, Ion Bogza, accidentally left a suitcase on a train, with money sent by the Jews of Dorohoi to those deported to the Mogilev-Podolskii ghetto. When Bogza arrived at the lost and found department to collect the suitcase, he was arrested and court-martialled; his fate is unknown. Pp. 350-351 contain an English translation of the police report on his arrest.
