Abstract: The Nazi plunder of Jewish property in the USSR was different from that in other occupied countries. There was no private property in the USSR, so only homes, furniture, clothes, valuables, artworks, etc. could be confiscated; most of the Jews were killed on the spot and their property remained at the disposal of the local authorities. Describes the organization of the plunder: orders and directives of the German authorities which regulated the expropriation of the Jews and the transfer of the spoil. Besides the "official plunder, " unofficial pillage also took place: marauding German soldiers, indigenous police, and the general populace stole much of the Jewish property. Among those who took part in the official plunder and benefited from it were German authorities, Einsatzgruppen and other SS formations, German and indigenous police, as well as various institutions and individuals in Germany.
