Abstract:
Analyzes Margaretha von Trotta's film "Rosenstrasse", on the protest of "Aryan" wives against the internment of their Jewish husbands in Berlin in 1943. Points out many inaccuracies in the film's depiction of Nazi policy concerning mixed marriages. Argues that the film projects contemporary ideologies - non-violent resistance and feminism - on the historical incident. also criticizes Trotta's assumption that moral heroism can be represented only by an aristocrat rather than one of the common people.
