Kurzfassung: A report of research carried out with the support of the Open Society Foundation. The information was acquired by monitoring major newspapers and journals in Poland, a selection of the local press, Internet sites, and other mass media. All of the Jewish communities were questioned about antisemitic incidents; there were 45 such incidents in 2000. The number of antisemitic publications in 1999-2000 grew considerably in comparison to previous years. Discusses use of antisemitic propaganda by right-wing political parties and concludes that the usefulness of antisemitism for political manipulation is the reason why politicians are not really interested in combating it. States, however, that aberrant antisemitism does not appeal to the voters. Surveys leitmotifs of antisemitic propaganda, underlining the influence of the Radio Maryja Catholic broadcasts. Discusses, also, some cases of antisemitic activities which have been brought to the public attorney's offices or to the courts.

Kurzfassung: The relocation of the nucleus of the Betar movement from the Warsaw ghetto to the Hrubieszów area in the summer of 1941 is a prominent theme in the historiography of the Betar underground during World War II. Chaim Lazar-Litai portrayed it as a major milestone - a period of preparation and training that preceded the mobilization of the Betar cadres in Żydowski Związek Wojskowy (ŻZW) prior to the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto. Some other authors have also followed this view. Examining the Hrubieszów episode with extant witness accounts, Libionka concludes that the relocation played either a negative role in Betar's preparations for fighting, or no role at all. The Zionist Revisionist movement relocated its active members (with full authorization of the Germans) to Hrubieszów in an attempt to preserve its manpower for the future in the more favorable conditions of an agricultural farm. It is unclear how many people were relocated to Hrubieszów and whether all of them belonged to Betar. In any case, in summer 1942 most of them were deported to Sobibor and killed there, and only a handful of these Betar members returned to Warsaw. There is no reason to believe that the birth of the ŻZW was a direct consequence of their return.

Kurzfassung: The historiography of the Warsaw ghetto uprising tends to ascribe the leading role to the left-wing Jewish Combat Organization (ŻOB) and to underestimate or neglect the Revisionist Zionist organization's Jewish Military Union (ŻZW). However, reliable accounts show that in the areas where the ŻZW fought the battles were more fierce, and that this organization was much better armed than the rival ŻOB. Neglect of the ŻZW's role can be explained by the fact that the ŻOB's role in the uprising is well documented and that ŻOB's veterans did much to extol its role, while only scant documentation on the ŻZW exists. On the other hand, many of the accounts on the ŻZW, both Jewish and Polish, are unreliable. In particular, testimonies by Iwanski and others on the little-known Polish underground organization Korpus Bezpieczeństwa, which they claim to have spawned the ŻZW, raise doubts as to their veracity. Political considerations in Israel have shaped the narratives on ŻZW's role in the uprising, and this issue requires elucidation.
